How an oceanographer became a green industry internet marketing consultant...

My career in marketing and more notably in internet marketing began in the Oceanography Dept. at the University of Maine at Orono. A simple request from the Dept. Chair followed by no job openings after graduation combined with my deep love for programming and all things "geek" have lead me to where I am now. After graduation with a Masters of Science degree in coastal oceanography, I worked with a local ISP, The Maine InternetWorks (no longer in business) as an internet technician and web project manager. When that company was bought and restructured by Adelphia Cable, I went to work for Johnny's Selected Seeds in Winslow and I started as their webmaster. Over a 9-year history in the seed and agricultural industry, I was promoted to Internet Marketing Specialist and finally to Marketing Manager. My time at Johnny's taught me that though I thoroughly enjoy cross channel marketing, web marketing was what I most passionate about. I departed Johnny's and began my own business so that I could devote all of my energy (and not just a tiny part of it) to the substantial art of effective and profitable internet marketing.

As President and CEO, I have 20 years experience in web site design, 10+ years experience in organic search engine optimization and pay per click marketing (PPC), and 5+ years experience in direct mail marketing, catalog production and circulation management. I specialize in LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP) programs, tools, and development. I am a supporter of open-sourced technologies and some of my favorite tools include osCommerce, MyBB, WordPress, MySQL, and a smattering of great tools and add-ons that have been created by a very talented pool of programmers and developers.
